I went with the automatic script that unpacked and configured the IMAP account on my Mac's "Mail" program.
It seems I can send mail from it just fine.. but I cannot actually receive anything.
Any tips on where to look first?

Please check whether your settings in the mail client are correct.
Email Address - the mailbox which will be accessed, i.e. email@example.com.
Incoming Mail Server - mail.yourdomain.com.
Mail Server Type - Select IMAP
User Account ID - enter the full e-mail address, i.e. firstname.lastname@example.org instead of user.
Password - password assigned to email@example.com.
Outgoing (SMTP) Mail Server - mail.yourdomain.com.
Sometimes your ISP may block default SMTP port. Please use an alternative port 26 to as SMTP port

Login to your customer control panel at https://manage.myhosting.com
Click on Hosting
Click on Exchange
Click on Distribution Lists
Click on Add New Distribution List
Enter the Alias, Display name, Email address and select Address book and Security Options
Click on Submit
Once the distribution list is created you can add users to the list
