Some of these trends you could see coming a mile away.
I can't believe there was no discussion of flashing borders or text!

Trends that were doomed from the start is the Bevel/Emboss and rainbow gradients.
I suggest Letterpress as opposed to bevel or embossing but meh, just a suggestion.

I can see your point with letterpress being the opposite, but it looks so much nicer!

I think letterpress looks great in the right setting... I've never been a fan of the default Photoshop bevel or emboss.
