Was interested to know whether Eleven2 basic shared hosting would be ok for a Gaming Community Site, we intend to use:
  • WordPress for the site plus a rockettheme.com theme
  • phpBB for the forums
We simply can't afford anything close on a dedicated server, and even cloud hosting is out of our budgets. I was also curious to know if the basic cloud-server is that much better than shared hosting, considering a rep on E2 states shared hosting accounts get 1GB of memory and only the CS-300 has + 1GB of memory?

We expect a relatively low visitor count to begin with. Excluding about the 14 team members who would regularly visit the site and access the forums sometime simultaneously. This could rise significantly but I don't expect the forums to get very big.

What kind of stress (visitor count) can E2's shared hosting handle?

I am assuming Eleven2's Shared Hosting can handle this considering that even though the theme is advanced and we have a forum, neither are exceptionally large in script.

Also to what extent can Cloudflare improve our site, we plan to have two domains and I have had difficulty with Cloudflare, with sites that use more than one domain.

About once a week currently I get an email stating that my portfolio site's second domains name-servers have changed from Cloudflare's ones, when they have not and I have to manually every week re-activate Cloudflare for that domain. Cloudflare seem unable to solve this problem

Hey Jeremy,

Shared hosting will be fine for this, a small site with a forum. I would recommend the S-200 package.

But as with all websites, no one can predict exactly how much and how fast they will grow. So if in the future you want to upgrade to a Cloud Server, we can literally move your site + forum across to the cloud no problem at all.

As for CloudFlare, It works best on static content websites, so I probably wouldn't use it with a forum.

Let me know if you have anymore questions Jeremy and I'd be happy to answer them!

Andy.

On the topic of Cloud-Hosting.

It is currently well out of our Gaming Communities budget, but I would like to know what exactly are the costs involved in a Cloud-Server. The basic Cloud-Server is the CS-100 and is $12.50/month would this allow me to host my site and forums or would I still have to factor in the cPanel Cloud License (Extra $11/month) - As this would push a Cloud-Server even further out of our clans budget, or do we not have to have the - cPanel Cloud License to host our site at all?

Also could you host something like a Team Speak 3 (Game VoIP) server on something like the CS-100 Cloud-Server, or would you need a more powerful Cloud-Server, or would a cloud-server not allow such a system?

Hey Jeremy,

Managed cloud servers come with cPanel, where as self-managed servers do not. It's simple +$11 USD / month for a cPanel licence.

As for the Game VoIP. I'm sure it will be fine on a basic cloud server, but i'll double check and get back to you shortly.

SO that means to host our site on one of your Cloud-Servers we would still need to factor in the $11/m cPanel License + CS-100 Server $12.50 = $23.50/month

Or is it possible to host a site without the cPanel License. As I would consider paying the $12.50/month, but more than that per month is well over my budget.

Hi Jeremy,

You can host your game VoIP on any cloud server. But it won't work at all on our shared hosting.

When you purchase a self-managed cloud server, we provide you with the setup, and your choice of OS. It's then up to you how you manage it, and what things you install for website hosting to be possible.

If you're not sure about how to setup / manage a web server, then i would advise against purchasing a self-managed cloud server.
