Hi,

I use joomla! 1.5, 1.7, 2.5 site. From version 1.6, Joomla! had update function. But my 1.7 and 2.5 sites returned errors when I used this update function.

I checked and found Joomla warned no set for temporary upload directory. So I saw phpinfo, no upload_tmp_dir defined.

I asked tech, but answered they don't want to change server side setting, and user can't set upload_tmp_dir.

So new version Joomla user can't update joomla itself, also extensions and themes by Joomla update function. We must manualy update one by one. It's stupid. Joomla! is major CMS.

Someone know how solve this?

Latest Joomla is stable, version 2.5.6.

You haven't quite reported which errors you get when you try to update it from the Administrator interface. I suggest you to manually download 2.5.6 and upload via FTP, then whence you're done, go to Administrator and use the Discover option under Extensions Manager, it should call everything which is missing in your install.
