Cloud hosting looks like it is more expensive than shared hosting. What does cloud hosting have that I wouldn't get with shared hosting? This might also be a good one to put in the pre sales forum area.

I am assuming you get a piece of a processor such as 1.25ghz deciated to your website instead of shared which has no deciated processor usage.

With shared hosting, you get whatever the features say you get, without being able to customize your server. Shared hosting also means you share server resources with other sites on the same server. If the server goes down for example, everyone is effected by it.

Cloud hosting is an infrastructure of servers, and lets you run your website without any downtime if one of the servers goes down. It's similar to a dedicated server, as you can choose your own operating system, your own software, and more installed on your server. They can be managed, which means someone else can take care of all of that for you (in this case eleven2 can). Self-managed means you'll have to take care of the server yourself, which is usually the cheaper route in costs but requires more of your time to keep managed.

Getting someone to do a few hours work on your server can cost around $100+ (from past experience), so I think having a managed server is better in my opinion.

@Zide, very detailed explanation.

@lalay25 - Your right there! Hosting becomes extremely reliable in a cloud environment.

Good stuff I might consider cloud hosting soon.
